The Everest Base Camp trek is an unforgettable adventure that combines the convenience of well-maintained paths with the breathtaking beauty of the Himalayas. Located in the heart of the majestic Everest region, this trek takes you through stunning landscapes and introduces you to the rich culture of Nepal, including the warm hospitality of the Sherpa people. Over the course of 14 days, trekkers will reach an altitude of approximately 5,364 meters, offering panoramic views of some of the world’s tallest peaks, including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Pumori, Nuptse, and Lobuche.
The journey begins with a scenic 35-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla or, depending on the season, a 20-minute flight from Manthali/Ramechhap to Lukla, followed by a 5 to 6-hour drive from Kathmandu to Manthali. From Lukla, the trek follows the Dudh Koshi River, passing through the Sagarmatha National Park, with the first major stop being Namche Bazaar, the primary trading hub in the region. Namche also serves as an acclimatization point for trekkers, helping them adjust to the increasing altitude.
From Namche, the trek continues through picturesque landscapes filled with verdant forests, terraced farmland, and towering mountains. The next stop is Tengboche, home to the famous Tengboche Monastery. From here, the trail ascends to Dingboche, Lobuche, and eventually to Gorak Shep, with awe-inspiring views of peaks such as Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Ama Dablam along the way. After reaching Gorak Shep, trekkers make their way to Everest Base Camp, passing the Khumbu Glacier, the world’s deepest glacier. After exploring the base camp, they return to Gorak Shep for the night.
The next day, a hike to Kala Patthar provides the opportunity to witness a spectacular sunrise over Mt. Everest and surrounding peaks. After taking in the panoramic views, trekkers descend to Pheriche Village, retracing their steps back through the lush rhododendron and juniper forests, and returning to Namche Bazaar. The trek concludes with a flight back to Lukla, followed by a return flight to Kathmandu, marking the end of an extraordinary journey through the Everest region.

Kalapatthar is one of the best viewpoints in the region for sunrise or sunset, but it can also be visited at any time of the day. Alternatively, if you prefer to visit Everest Base Camp, the hike is a bit longer (around 3-4 hours from Gorak Shep), but the experience of standing at the base of the world’s highest peak is unforgettable. You’ll be surrounded by towering glaciers and the Khumbu Icefall. After visiting your chosen destination, you will return to Gorak Shep for the night.
